What is Mussar?

Mussar is the ancient Jewish spiritual practice of ethical mindfulness. It gives us a loving, embodied way to be in the world — with strategies that grow our capacities to be awake both to others’ needs and to all areas of our lives.

Unlike purely theoretical approaches to ethics, Mussar emphasizes the lived experience of virtue, offering a profound framework that provides guidance and wisdom for all dimensions of human experience — from our most intimate family relationships to our professional endeavors and social interactions.

While Mussar brings the insights of Jewish theology and ethical analysis into understanding how we act in the world, it presents a powerful and practical approach to personal growth that transcends religious boundaries.

"Mussar has proven to be a true life companion. I see changes occurring in long held patterns, particularly in the realm of patience. I see myself available to others, receiving feedback that this is true, and yet I understand when self-care is needed and appropriate. In other words, Mussar, as taught by CCM, provides a language and a framework for creating a healthy soul container while acting in our fragmented world."
