Friday, July 17

  • Morning Text Study for clergy and madrichim

Saturday, July 18

  • ‘The Divine Lamp': Mussar Teachings on Changing Our Ways of Seeing | Morning service at Adath Jeshurun Congregation

    • Morning services begin at 9:30 am (Rabbi Boettiger will also be giving the d’var torah), and then the featured program, “Learn After Lunch” begins immediately afterwards.

    • For the “Learn After Lunch” program, Rabbi Boettiger will talk about Mussar as essentially a training in an alternate way of seeing the world – to be followed by a text study on how this is evidenced in the writings of some of the Mussar greats, including Moshe Chayyim Luzzatto and Moshe Cordavero. '

  • Post-event schmooze (outdoors, weather permitting)

Sunday, July 19

  • Where the Rubber Meets the Road: Mussar Moments in the Personal and Political Realms | Morning program at Beth Jacob Congregation

    • Join Rabbi Boettiger for learning and conversation exploring what Mussar might look like in action – not only in our interpersonal relationships, but also in the public sphere. He will give an initial short talk on the multiple and various origins of Mussar, and then we’ll dive into the thicket of how we might think about applying it in these challenging times.

Meet Rabbi Joshua Boettiger!

Rabbi Joshua Boettiger is the Rosh Yeshiva at the Center for Contemporary Mussar, and the author of the forthcoming book, To Imagine Other Solitudes (Monkfish, 2027). He is also Jewish Chaplain and Visiting Assistant Professor at Bard College in the Hudson River Valley of New York, and has an MFA in Poetry from Pacific University.
